HERON, GREAT BLUE - Ardea herodias
North America
It lives along the coasts of North America, from the southern regions of Canada up to Mexico and Cuba, and in the Galápagos Islands. In winter it moves up to the northern regions of South America, in Colombia and in Venezuela. It frequents swamps, lakes, rivers and marshes. Colonial habits, it builds the nest over the trees or on bushes close to the water. Dimensions: 97-140 cm. Wingspan: 167-201 cm.
